John T. Speer

John Thomas Speer, age 77, of Northville, passed away December 26, 2023. He was born on November 23, 1946 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania; son of James and Pearl (Walter) Speer. Tom, as he was affectionately known, graduated from Upper St. Clair High School; class of 1967.  He went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His unwavering commitment earned him numerous awards, reflecting his dedication to duty and service.

Throughout his professional career, Tom made significant contributions to the home improvement industry. From owning his own construction company in Pittsburgh to concluding a remarkable 15-year tenure as the Regional Manager for Home Depot, Tom's impact was felt far and wide. His leadership, expertise, and work ethic left an indelible mark on the industry he dedicated his life to.

Beyond his professional achievements, Tom was a man of diverse talents and passions. An extraordinary amateur golfer who began the sport at the age of 7, he traversed the United States, participating in golf tournaments and leaving a lasting impression on those who shared the course with him. Tom's prowess extended to billiards, where he showcased his skills in tournaments, even venturing as far as Alaska to compete. His love for poker and extended trips to Atlantic City added another layer to the vibrant tapestry of his life.

Tom's zest for life was evident in his interest in horse racing, having purchased his own horse that raced at The Meadowlands in Pittsburgh. He lived life to the fullest and excelled in everything he undertook, leaving behind a legacy of passion and achievement.

Tom is survived by his best friend, caregiver, and former wife, Linda Speer; his brothers, James (Sandy) Speer and Jeffrey (Diana) Speer; and as well as nieces and nephews who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Tom and Linda loved and respected one another to the last moments of his life.  He will be greatly missed by Linda, as their relationship lasted a span of 36 years.  May God rest his soul.
