John C. Barnaby

May 31, 1939 — April 1, 2020

John C. Barnaby, age 80, of Howell, formerly of Detroit and Dearborn, passed away April 1, 2020.  He was born May 31, 1939 in Ironwood, Michigan; son of Douglas and Harriet (nee Musolf) Barnaby.  John graduated from Chadsey High School in Detroit; Class of 1957.

John worked for Norfolk and Western Railroad for 17 years.  He also worked in shipping and receiving for Joint, Clutch, and Gear in Detroit and as a custodian for Dearborn Public Schools.

John was a member of St. Suzanne Catholic Church in Detroit where he was active with the Young Adult Club.  He was also a member of Thomas A. Dooley Knights of Columbus.  John was a fantastic bowler and was active with many teams and leagues throughout the years.  An avid reader; his favorite genres were cowboy books and westerns, it was unusual to find him without a book in hand.  He enjoyed playing the lottery and bingo.  John also enjoyed playing cards, especially rummy.  Among his favorite foods were apple pie and ice cream.  John, who was very kindhearted and gentle, liked to be social and talk.  He loved his family and cherished the time they spent together.

John is survived by his loving siblings, Frances (Andrew) Balestrieri, Mary (Dave) Ryzyi, and Patricia Barnaby.  He was also loved by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew Matthew Barnaby.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 12, 2020 at 11:00am with the time of gathering beginning at 10:30am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 133 Orchard Street, Northville, MI 48167.
