Joann Crain

Age 92, of Farmington Hills, formerly of Englewood, Florida and Livonia, passed away May 20, 2020.   She was born July 29, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of William and Alice (nee Joldersma) DeHaan.  She graduated from Royal Oak High School in Royal Oak; Class of 1945.  Joann was united in marriage to Allan Crain on June 22, 1946, they spent 52 loving years together until his death on March 3, 1998.

Joann was a devoted homemaker.  She had a green thumb and grew flourishing flower gardens.  Joann was an avid golfer and spent most of her summer either golfing or spending time at her summer cottage in Brighton.  She had a deep appreciation for the arts, such as concerts, theater, movies, and museums. She was a talented pianist and had a great love of classical music.  She liked to play cards, especially bridge and euchre with friends.  Joann was a voracious reader and stayed current with politics. In fact, she met her best friend in Florida while attending a peace rally on the beach.  Joann enjoyed travelling, she visited many different places throughout the United States with family including, California, Alaska on a cruise, Hawaii where she enjoyed going snorkeling, Washington DC, and extensively throughout the West and along the Eastern Seaboard.  Her favorite places to visit were near the water on the Gulf of Florida and Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes. She also traveled to Europe where she toured the Netherlands and London.

Joann is survived by her loving children, Michael (Marcy Glencer) Crain, Jim (Audrey) Crain, Diane Taylor, and Steve Crain; her sister-in-law, Josie DeHaan; her grandchildren, Jason (Melissa) Crain, Darcy Crain, Jennifer Taylor, Greg (Chris) Taylor, and Kellie (Don) Penny; and 10 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her grandson Roger Crain, her son-in-law Dan Taylor, her sister Janet Bennett, her brother Bill DeHaan, and her parents.

The family will be having a memorial service at a later date. During this difficult time please let the family know you are thinking of them and reach out with a phone call or leave an online condolence.
