On Wednesday, July 8, 2020 Joan Y. Craig passed away at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington in Rockville, MD where she resided. She was born August 27, 1923 in Iran to the late Yonan and Bathsheba Essakhan. Joan immigrated to the United States in 1958 and lived in Flint, Michigan where she raised her family.  She worked as a nursing assistant for almost three decades at St. Joseph Hospital and was a committed caregiver there.  Joan had many talents and was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed entertaining and sharing her food and shish kabob recipe with family, friends, and neighbors. She was never demeaned nor diminished by difficult circumstances.  On the contrary, she was determined.  She belonged to the church, she was enveloped in the community, and she was often surrounded by her circle of friends and extended family. After leaving Michigan and settling in Maryland, Joan enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, cooking, canning, and baking.  Joan made many new friends during her time at St. Raphael Assisted Living and Hebrew Home of Greater Washington.

Beloved mother of Linda Marie Fowler (husband, Daniel) and Scott Douglas Craig (wife, Brenda); devoted grandmother of Benjamin (wife, Aurora), Nicholas and Camden Fowler, Joseph, Hannah, Katherine and Samuel Craig; cherished sister of Suzanne Monasa.
