Jo Ann Korotney

Age 78, longtime resident of Jackson, passed away on November 17, 2019 in Northville. She was born on March 11, 1941 in Wyandotte, Michigan; daughter of Leo and Nellie (nee Fitzpatrick) Swank. She graduated from Allen Park High School; Class of 1959.  She continued her education at Eastern Michigan University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science.  Jo Ann was united in marriage to Frank Korotney on July 21, 1963; they spent 56 years devoted to each other.

Prior to having children, Jo Ann taught high school math and later was a real estate broker.  She was a dedicated homemaker and took wonderful care of her family.  Jo Ann’s volunteer work was very important to her; she served as an officer in the Jackson Medical Society Auxiliary, which were wives of medical doctors that volunteered in the community and was a co-founder of Jackson Junior Welfare League that provided community services in the Jackson area.

Jo Ann enjoyed gardening and tending the beautiful flowers she grew in her yard.  She liked reading, poetry and completing Sudoku puzzles.  One of her favorite past times was spending time with her family at their cottage in Charlevoix.  She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be missed by all who loved her.

Jo Ann is survived by her loving husband Frank Korotney; her sons, David (Abby) Korotney and James (Kristin) Korotney; her brother, Donald (Connie) Swank; her grandchildren, Jared, Alec, Gigi, and Nathan.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Ruth Luke.

A time of gathering will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville.  Pastor Ben Walls from Hilltop Church of the Nazarene will officiate the service.
