Jeanne Holmes

September 24th, 1961 - February 19th, 2024

Jeanne Marie (Yockey) Holmes was born and raised in Troy, Michigan to parents Chester and Nancy Yockey alongside her brother, Phil, and sister, Marsha. She was married to the love of her life, Doug Holmes, for 40 years living in Novi, MI and is survived by Doug and their daughters, Allison (Matthew) Tolkacz and Rachel. She was a loving grandmother “Gaga” to Allison’s four sons, Benjamin, Oliver, Nathaniel, and Dominic and loving aunt to her six nephews. She passed away peacefully in her sleep after living bravely with ALS for over two years. Among many other wonderful things, she will be remembered for her vibrant energy and spirit and her boundless generosity and care for her loved ones.

Jeanne graduated from Troy High School in 1979 and graduated with her BSE in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1983. Shortly after marrying her college sweetheart Doug, she worked in environmental engineering consulting in Virginia and Novi, MI before becoming a chemistry teacher at Northville High School and later staying home to raise Allison and Rachel.

Jeanne was completely dedicated to her family and very active and passionate about giving back to the community through her hobbies - between coaching her daughters’ sports teams, tutoring students, teaching Sunday School, and playing the French Horn and singing in the choir at FUMC Northville - she greatly touched the lives of many. She was a huge sports fan and attended countless Michigan games and every one of Allison, Rachel, and her grandson’s sports games with Doug. She loved playing sports, especially basketball in college and additional recreational sports in adulthood. She was also very involved in the Leader Dogs for the Blind as a three-time puppy raiser, three-time breeding stock host, and delivered 12 litters of puppies at home with the help of her family.

Jeanne will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and anyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
