Jeanne M. Bloch, age 89, a longtime resident of Westland, passed away on February 29, 2024. She was born on January 3, 1935 in New Bedford, Massachusetts; daughter of Herve and Yvonne (LaForest) Parent. She graduated from St. Anthony High School in New Bedford, MA; class of 1953. Jeanne was united in marriage to Richard P. Bloch on May 15, 1954; they spent 58 loving years together until his death on November 5, 2012. She and Richard modeled for their children what it meant to truly be devoted to one another. They made sure to put their marriage first and in doing so radiated love.
Jeanne was a dedicated homemaker and grateful each day for the blessing of her beautiful family. While her five children kept her extremely busy, she made sure there was a home cooked meal each night and supported all of them in their extracurricular activities. On her children’s birthdays, she showered them with love and made them a special dinner including a homemade cake with the best buttercream frosting. Hot summer days were spent at Murrays Lake Club and family vacations were always back East to spend time with extended family. When her children were grown, she took a position as a secretary with her son’s company Clean Cut, Inc. located in Westland.
Jeanne was a devout Catholic who loved the Lord. She prayed the rosary daily and shared her spirituality with those around her. A founding family of St. Bernardine Church in Westland, she served as a eucharistic minister, volunteered with the Women’s Group, as well as many other committees. Always willing to lend a hand, Jeanne helped to make sure any resident at Marycrest who wanted to attend mass was able to get there.
Jeanne was a gracious host and will be remembered for her special recipes. She enjoyed playing pinochle and euchre with friends and occasionally trying her luck at the casino. Her warm, kindhearted nature made her a beloved friend and wonderful neighbor. Her greatest joy came from her family and the laughter and countless blessings her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought into her life. Jeanne leaves behind a legacy of love and many cherished memories that will be deeply treasured by her family and friends.
Jeanne is survived by her loving children, Cheryl (Gary) Corte, Brenda (Gary) McDaniel, Kenneth (Linda) Bloch, Gregory (Barbara) Bloch, and Diane (Steve) Lamanen; her siblings, Pauline Lyons, Herve “Roger” Parent, and Simone Stemper; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sisters Doris Cote, Claire McCardell, Theresa Greenwalt, and Georgette Parent.
