Jean F. Petres, age 85, a lifelong resident of Northville, passed away on April 26, 2019. She was born on July 26, 1933 in Kilmarnock, Scotland; daughter of James and Jean (nee Macaulay) Craig. Jean was united in marriage to Stanley Petres on February 17, 1979; they spent 31 years devoted to one another as husband and wife until his death in 2010.
Jean worked as a Secretary at Burroughs for 25 years. She was a member of the Plymouth Elks Club and a helpful volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital in Livonia. Golf was a big part of Jean’s life; she played as often as she could and was a member of a woman’s league at Downing Farms. Jean also enjoyed playing bridge and was very active. She would walk a few miles a day when she was able. Jean loved her family but never truly decided who would get the dinner ring.
Jean is survived by her children, James (Darcy) LaPlante and Nancy (Christopher) Smogor; her daughter-in-law, Sue LaPlante; her step-children, Jim (Sue) Petres, Bill (Patty) Petres, Tricia (Bob) Poole, and Peggy (Don) Wohlberg; her sister, Margaret Wells; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son Robert LaPlante.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2019 from 2pm until 5pm with a funeral service beginning at 5pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. Pastor James N. McGuire with Christ Presbyterian Church in Novi will officiate the service. She will be laid to rest at Rural Hill Cemetery in Northville.
