James E. Taylor

Age 88, of Jackson, formerly of Northville, passed away on January 18, 2022. He was born on February 4, 1933; son of Floyd and Hazel (Storm) Taylor. He graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn; class of 1951.  Following graduation, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. James was united in marriage to Marilynn M. Engel on July 20, 1957; they spent 52 years devoted to one another until her death on November 28, 2009.

James worked as a yard switchman for Paragon Steel in Novi for 27 years.  When the company closed, he continued to work with various companies before finally retiring in 1995 at age 62.  He was a faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jackson.

James was an avid bowler and at one point was bowling in as many as 4 leagues.  He also enjoyed swimming in the lake.  James was a huge sports fan, especially football and Tiger baseball.  He was amazing at predicting sports results which earned him the nickname “Jimmy the Greek” at work.  James liked to travel; for 2 weeks each year he would take his family on a road trip.  The adventures took them to places all over the United States, including Soo Locks, Pictured Rocks, Mammoth Caves, and Yellowstone.

James is survived by his loving children, Paul Taylor, Theresa (Michael) Cunningham, and Sonja (Dave) Edson; his sisters, Margaret Taylor, Marcia Taylor, and Joan (Doyle) Agent; his grandchildren, Lindsey Cunningham, Michael Cunningham, Kendell Cunningham, Autumn Edson and Natalie Edson; and his great granddaughter, Kiyah Newell.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marilynn M. Taylor, his parents, and his brothers, Les Taylor and William Taylor.
