James L. Seager

March 29, 1938 — February 14, 2023

James L. Seager, age 84, longtime resident of Livonia, passed away February 14, 2023. He was born on March 29, 1938 in Wilkensburgh, Pennsylvania; Thomas and Grace (Eaton) Seager. He graduated from high school in Northern Michigan.  Following high school, he served in the National Guard Reserves until joining the United States Navy.  He proudly served his country as a chaplain assistant.

James worked as a clerk and cashier for Hollywood Supermarket in Troy for 35 years until retiring in 2001.  A devoted employee, he never missed a day of work.   He was a member of St. Aidan Catholic Church in Livonia and the Knights of Columbus.  He was also a member of VFW Post 4012 in Northville and American Legion Post 32 in Livonia.

James was an avid football fan; his favorite teams were University of Michigan and the Detroit Lions.  He enjoyed gambling and betting on sports and was often very lucky.  James kept his mind sharp watching games shows and completing crossword puzzles each day.  He loved spending time with his family and was always eager to lend a hand to those in need.  He volunteered his time in his senior living community helping to decorate for the holidays.  James, who was polite and friendly, appreciated the simpler things in life and took pride in his independence.  He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend; he will be missed by all who loved him

James is survived by his loving children, Teresa Beckman and James (Tamara) Seager, II; his brother, Thomas Seager; his grandchildren, Britteny (Justin) Judd, Tiffany (Dustin) Miller, Brandon Janusz, James Beckman, Ashley (Kevin) Belanger, and Meredith (Jason) Oakes; 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin sisters Ruth and Bea.

He will be laid to rest in the Veteran section at Rural Hill Cemetery in Northville on May 12, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
