James L. Marks, age 68, of Roscommon, formerly of New Hudson, passed away December 5, 2018. He was born June 16, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Harold and Audrey (nee Maxwell) Marks. He graduated from Northville High School; Class of 1968. Jim was united in marriage to Nancy Koons on April 12, 1985; they spent 33 loving years together as husband and wife.
Jim began his career as a Police Officer with the Northville City Police Department, he retired as a Sergeant after 25 years. Following his retirement, he served as the Chief of Police with the Mackinac Island Police Department for 7 years. He later worked as the Resource Officer at Collins Elementary in Roscommon; the children at the school adored him and no matter how old they got, always greeted him with a hug. Jim was currently working for the Markey Township Fire Department, where he loved the EMT work he did with the department.
Jim was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Roscommon. He was also a member of the Markey Township Firefighter/EMT Association. Jim was a talented woodworker who made beautifully crafted end tables, benches, cutting boards, jewelry hangers, and shelves which he often gave to family and friends as gifts. He enjoyed travelling and going to the casino. Throughout the years he had many animals, one of his favorites was a black lab named Midnight and his current furry companion was Magnum, a rescue from St. Ignace. Jim loved his family and cherished the time they spent together.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Nancy Marks; his son, Robert Marks; his step-children, Brian (Maggie) Andrews, Deanna (Rick) Perfetto, Julie (Mark) Smith, and Katrina Raymor; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will by held Sunday, December 16, 2018 from Noon until 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday, December 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. Rev. Douglas W. Vernon from First United Methodist Church of Northville will officiate the service. Mr. Marks will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia.
