James M. Hollis

June 6, 1935 — July 20, 2024

James M. Hollis, age 89, lifelong resident of Northville, passed away on July 20, 2024.  He was born on June 6, 1935 in Plymouth, Michigan; son of Roy and Leta (Cantley) Hollis.  He graduated from Northville High School; class of 1953.  Following high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army.  Jim was united in marriage to Lois M. Leavenworth on August 11, 1961; they spent 62 years lovingly devoted to one another.

Jim worked as an installer for Michigan Bell which later became AT&T.  He retired in 1991 after 21 years as a dedicated and hardworking employee.  He was a lifetime member of the AT&T Pioneers and the Communications Workers of America Local 4015.

A true outdoorsman, he took great pride in maintaining his home and yard, creating a welcoming haven where he could often be found relaxing on the patio, always ready to greet friends and family.  Throughout his life, Jim treasured the lasting friendships he formed in high school, staying in close contact with his core group of friends. As a father, he opened his home as a gathering place for his children and their friends. Jim had a deep love for music, particularly country, and enjoyed playing guitar in a cover band with friends during the 60s and 70s. He kept his mind sharp by reading the newspaper daily. A man of strong faith, Jim read the Bible and lived by the motto, “Stand by God and it will work out.” He adored the companionship of dogs, with his latest furry friend being Doc. Jim was a skilled model builder, meticulously creating and painting boats, airplanes, and cars.  Wise and principled, Jim always strived to do what was right. Above all, he valued his family, cherishing every moment spent together. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Lois Hollis; his children, Michael (Kathy) Hollis, Jill Hollis, and Amy (Jeff) Crouse; and his grandsons, Brandon Crouse and Jayden Crouse.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin sister June Bale.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at Noon at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville.  Mr. Hollis will be laid to rest at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens where military honors will be rendered.
