James M. Carbary, age 63, longtime resident of Novi passed away March 25, 2020. He was born February 13, 1957 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Harold W. and Myrtle M. (nee McIntyre) Carbary. James graduated from Thurston High School in Redford; Class of 1975. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Jean A. Harvilla on June 25, 1977; they spent 42 devoted years together as husband and wife.
He worked for General Motors at the Hydromatic Plant in Ypsilanti for 34 years. Following retirement from GM he worked for Eberspacher, a machine shop in Wixom, for 5 years. James enjoyed watching television and movies. He was an avid sports fan who liked the thrill and excitement of watching football. James appreciated a good comedy routine by the Three Stooges. He liked taking adventurous trips on his snowmobile. His perfect night-in included a pizza from Primos Pizza and a game of dominoes where his intellect was helpful. James also enjoyed going out with friends and spending holidays with family. He loved playing with his cat, Oliver. James was a dedicated and loving husband, father, brother, and friend.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Jean A. Carbary; his daughters, Sharon (David) Graclak and Shelly Carbary; his siblings, Gerald Carbary, Susan (Bob) Carico, Diane (Doug) Hagerman, and Janice Abraham; and his father-in-law, Steve Harvilla. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bill Carbary.
The family will be receiving visitors by invitation only on Tuesday, March 31, 2020. A private service will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Park. Father Ed Zaorski with St. James Catholic Church will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to American Lung Association , 1475 East 12 Mile Road, Madison Heights, MI 48071.
Please be advised that in observance of the governmental order from the State of Michigan, we will be limiting funeral/visitation gatherings to 10 people at any one time.
