James M. "Jim" Ambrose

November 1, 1953 — May 25, 2021

James M. Ambrose, age 67, lifelong resident of Livonia, passed away peacefully May 25, 2021. He was born on November 1, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Richard and Lois (nee Leisner) Ambrose. Jim graduated from Livonia Stevenson High School; Class of 1971.  He continued his education and earned an associates degree from Schoolcraft College.  Jim was united in marriage to Gayle L. Snyder on April 20, 1979; they spent 42 loving years devoted to one another.

Jim worked at Ford Motor Company for 33 years; he retired in 2005 as a Quality Rep for the Casting Division.  He loved all things cars and auto racing.  James especially liked classic cars but had a special affinity for the 1979 Trans Am Silver Anniversary Edition that he owned.  He spent many hours in his garage, which he referred to as his man cave, working on his cars or hanging out with his Ford buddies.  When they were not hanging out in the garage, he enjoyed playing a round of golf with his buddies from Ford.  Jim had season tickets to all of the Michigan races, including NASCAR, the Grand Prix, and drag racing.  He travelled out of state to Vegas and Daytona to watch car racing as well.

Jim is survived by his wife Gayle Ambrose; his daughters, Jennifer (Adam) Renshaw and Angela (Mark) Maurin; his grandsons, Wyatt and Grant; his brothers, Rick (Kathy Peltier) Ambrose and Robert (Caroline) Ambrose; his sisters-in-law, Marsha Snyder, Tina Volonino, and Jill Snyder; his brothers-in-law, Stuart Snyder and Gary (Debby) Snyder; his nieces and nephews, Evan Ambrose, Graham Ambrose, John Ambrose, Jason (Carrie) Leach, Stuart Snyder, Jeremy Snyder, and Alyssa Snyder; and his great niece and nephew, Chelsea, Xavier, and Leo.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law Michael Swartz, his brother-in-law Sandy Volonino, and his great niece Kalistta Snyder.

Private services will be held.  He will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
