Jack R. Gatrell

Jack R. Gatrell, of Novi, passed away July 30, 2021. He was born on November 9, 1931 in St. Marys, West Virginia; son of Glen R. and Ida E. (nee Johnson) Gatrell. Jack graduated from St. Marys High School, class of 1949. He was united in marriage to Carole Knowlton on December 28, 1952; devoted to each other for over 68 years. Jack proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956. He was stationed in Libya in the communications department where he specialized in Morse Code.

Jack was an Iron Worker for Davis Iron Works. He retired in the early 2000’s after working in the Steel   Industry for over 50 years. Jack was a very hard worker and was truly devoted to providing for his family.  He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, and playing pool. A proud accomplishment was building the beautiful home in Novi that he lived for over 62 years. He loved telling stories and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Jack was a   charming and lovable husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Jack is survived by his wife Carole; his daughters, Teresa (the late Robert) Whitlatch and Karen (Trish Webster) Gatrell; his sister Betty Hammett; his grandchildren, Alesha, Angela, Amie (Derek), Amanda (Adam, Justin (Anchen), and Trevor (Joy); his great grandchildren, Rorey, Macieo, Preston, Darrien, Nico, Taaron, Cameron, Derek, Alivia, Ben, and Annabel; and his great-great grandchild Noel. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Steven Gatrell, and his siblings, Geraldine, Juanita, Lyle, Evelyn, and Geneva.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 4, 2021 from 11:30am until 2pm with the funeral service beginning at 2pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. Jack will be laid to rest at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi.
