Isabel J. Funk
Age 96, longtime resident of Northville, passed away on June 3, 2021. She was born November 20, 1924 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania; daughter of Charles and Margaret (nee Kraus) Davies. Isabel was united in marriage to Donald R. Funk on December 19, 1946; they spent 64 loving years as husband and wife until his death on June 9, 2011.
Isabel graduated from Redford High School; Class of 1942. Following high school, she attended Wayne State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She later went back to school and received an associate degree in Occupational Therapy from Schoolcraft College. Isabel ultimately went to work with her husband at his company Michigan Overhead Door Sales in Livonia. She took on the role of office manager, working in the front office, taking service calls, doing the billing, among other administrative tasks. Isabel retired with her husband in 2000 after passing the company on to their daughter Nancy, but continued to go in and check on her throughout the years.
Isabel was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Northville for many years. Active with the church she served as a deacon and taught Sunday school. She was also a life member of Northville Women’s Club. Isabel and her husband travelled extensively throughout the world, much of which was seen from a cruise ship. Some of the places they visited were Egypt, Greece, Turkey, South American, and the Panama Canal. They spent summers on their boat on Lake Macatawa which led to Lake Michigan and winters were spent at their timeshare on Sanibel Island in Florida. Isabel was an avid reader and kept her mind sharp by completing crossword puzzles like the New York Times Crossword. Isabel enjoyed gardening and used her green thumb to grow beautiful perennial gardens around her home. She adored cats, her current furry companions were Tinker and Belle. Isabel was a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend she will be missed by all who loved her.
Isabel is survived by her loving children, Janet (Richard) Persinger, Nancy (Ralph) Moore, and Donald (Michelle) Funk, Jr.; her grandchildren, Brandon (Amanda) Persinger, Daniel (Claire) Persinger, Christine Persinger, Seth Persinger, Annelise (Derek Bauer) Funk, Carly Funk, Alex Funk, Jonathan Moore, and Dustin Moore; her great grandchildren, Eleni, Charles, Henry, and Miles; and her devoted caregivers Imma Amanze and Linda Napier. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister Janet Williston.
Private family services will be held. She will be laid to rest with her husband in the columbarium at the First Presbyterian Church of Northville.
