Ida E. Tomaszewski

February 6, 1930 — June 20, 2019

Ida Elisabeth Tomaszewski, age 89, of Howell, passed away on June 20, 2019. She was born on February 6, 1930 in Germany; daughter of Ruprecht and Margaret (nee Urban) Haller. Ida was united in marriage to Lester A. Tomaszewski on December 19, 1959; devoted to each other for over 59 years.

Ida attended school in Augsburg, Germany where she received her Chemist Degree. She moved to the United States after marrying the love of her life. Ida and Lester lived in Novi before moving to Howell in 1977. She worked as a Newspaper Clerk for the Livingston County Press and Argus for over 23 years.

Gardening was Ida’s main passion in life. She was very proud to be a three-time blue ribbon award winner from the Howell Beautification Committee. Her dedication to her garden encouraged her neighbors to take pride in their flowers as well. Ida also enjoyed knitting and completing sudoku challenges. She liked to write, mostly letters to her friends and family in Germany; writing in both English and German. Ida was a very giving and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

She is survived by her husband Lester; her sons, Glenn A. Tomaszewski and Arthur (Chris) Tomaszewski; and her grandchildren, Brendan, Jeffrey, Victoria, and Sarah. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Salvation Army, 16130 Northland Drive, Southfield, MI 48075.
