Henry Fusco

August 1, 1926 — October 9, 2018

Henry Fusco, age 92, of Northville, formerly a longtime resident of Burton, Ohio, passed away October 9, 2018.  He was born on August 1, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio, son of Joseph and Grace (nee Visconti) Fusco.  Henry proudly served his country with the United States Navy during WWII.  He was stationed on Guam in the South Pacific where he played the flute in a small Navy band.  Following the war, he attended Kent State University where he majored in art and earned a bachelor’s degree.  He later earned a master’s degree in education with a special emphasis in art from Western State College in Colorado.  It was at Kent State where he met Mavis Lemmons; they were united in marriage on September 18, 1948 and just celebrated 70 loving years together.

Henry was a teacher and school administrator for the majority of his career, most notably at Cleveland Heights/University Heights Public Schools, Hawken School, and the Berkshire Public Schools, where he was the high school principal until he retired in 1981. He was also a member of the American Legion and served on the Board of Trustees for the Burton Public Library. Henry was a talented artist and pursued his passion for watercolor in his retirement. His work has been exhibited in national juried shows including the American Watercolor Society and the Canton Institute of Art, as well as in numerous Butler Institute of Art national and regional competitions. In 2006, the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown OH selected one of his paintings for inclusion in their permanent collection.

Henry is survived by his beloved wife, Mavis J. Fusco; his sons, Christopher (Martha) Fusco, and Timothy (Susan) Fusco; his grandchildren, Megan (Ted) Ames, Justin (Laura) Fusco, Jessica Fusco, Martha (Carl) Butcher, and Elisabeth (John) Carter; and his great grandchildren, Quinn, Christopher, Carter, Juliana, Holden, Sophia, Scarlett, Ainslie, Declan, and Georgia.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marie Johnson.
