Helen Petrusha, of Northville, formerly of Riverview, passed away May 1, 2023. She was born on May 21 in Hamtramck, Michigan; daughter of Samuel and Catherine (Szawarska) Nosalski. Helen graduated from Hamtramck High School. Following graduation Helen worked as a Secretary at Albert Kahn in Detroit.
She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald Petrusha on May 11, 1957; they spent over 48 years dedicated to each other until his death in 2005. Once married, she began the career she was meant to have, a homemaker. Her love for her family was unconditional. She rarely missed an athletic or social event of her son, daughter, or her grandchildren; she cherished all the memories made with her family.
Helen was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Northville and a past member for over 30 years of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Trenton. Having a strong devotion to God and Catholicism, she attended church regularly. When she was not able to attend, she found enjoyment watching Mass on the local Catholic cable channel.
From her Wednesday weekly breakfast with her large group of friends at Piero’s to bunco games with ladies in the neighborhood, Helen was an incredible friend. She liked playing UNO and having dinner dates with her husband and their friends. She took many trips to Mackinac Island to participate in the annual Labor Day bridge walk. Helen travelled with family and friends any chance she could. She went on a special girl’s trip with her daughter to Austria and many vacations with her son and his family. The destination was not as important as the amazing time they shared. Helen was a generous and giving woman. When her son first opened his dental practice, she volunteered to work for him and run his office. Her happy demeanor made others feel welcome. She loved animals, especially her children’s dogs and cats. Helen made the best jello fluff and will be remembered for her fun, positive personality. She will be deeply missed by all.
Helen is survived by her children, Dale (Laurie) Petrusha and Janet (Daniel) Cherewick; and her grandchildren, Lindsey (Christopher) DiCesare, Stephanie Petrusha, and Brian Cherewick. She was so excited knowing she had her first great granddaughter on the way. Helen was preceded by death by her parents and her sister Lottie Pietras.
