Helen Adair Levergood

Age 88, of Northville, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2021. She was born September 5, 1933 in Pine Bluff, Kentucky; daughter of Hardin and Paula (nee Thompson) Elkins.  She was united in marriage to John Levergood; they spent many years devoted to each other until he passed away in 2018.

Helen was a longtime resident of Monroe before moving to Northville. She received both her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Madonna University. Her degrees were in Business and Accounting. Helen worked as a legal assistant for Ted Sura for 15 years before a career change into Human Resources. She worked at Detroit Edison for many years until retirement.

Helen was a member of Stewart Road Church of God in Monroe where she taught Sunday School for years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Helen had a creative touch; enjoyed painting and interior design. Travelling to Hawaii was one of her favorite memories. She also liked spending time in her garden and keeping her flowers fresh. One of the great accomplishments in her life was when she got her pilots license. She was driven, always finished what she started. Helen had a giving soul and helped so many people without question; her motto was “there is always a corner to go around”.  Helen was a loving and kind mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.

She is survived by her children, Danny Ray Huffman and Sherry Ayers; her sister Linda Fody; her grandchildren, Nina Ayers, Rachel Steiner, Morgan Hocking, Renata Hocking, Isaac Huffman, and Noah Huffman; and 7 great grandchildren with one on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers Samuel Elkins and Danny Elkins.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children , 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
