Helen E. Hay

Age 95, of Northville, passed away August 8, 2023. She was born on November 11, 1927 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada; daughter of George and Margaret (Morrison) Mathieson. At the age of 18, Helen moved from Canada to Northville, Michigan where she resided for over 77 years.

Helen worked at Northville High School as a secretary and school bus driver for over 30 years; she retired in 1978. After retirement she began working at Northville Downs with her daughter; sharing many great memories and laughs with their co-workers.

Helen enjoyed maintaining her beautiful floral garden at her home and made sure to take special care of her favorite yellow roses. She was a great cook; one of her specialties was a family recipe for meatloaf passed from her mother-in-law. She also learned how to can fruit and vegetables from her family, a tradition Helen and her daughter continued for many years.

Helen is survived by her children, Ralph (Vicki) Hay III and Martha (John) Auer; and her granddaughter, Sarah (Dan) Glenn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son James Hay; her sisters, Ann Conners and Dorothea Conners; and her brother Ben Mathieson.
