Gretchen Adele McVeigh
Age 85, longtime resident of Northville, passed away on November 7, 2021. She was born on December 2, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of Arthur and Gretchen (Ruebelt) Morse. She graduated from Redford Union High School; Class of 1953.
Gretchen, who was also known as Adele, worked as a purchasing agent for Ford Motor Company for 30 years, retiring in 1994. A world traveler, she visited many amazing places most people only dream of. Her trips included a safari in Africa, Egypt, extensively through Europe, South America, and she even slept in a tent in Antarctica. While travelling she made many friends along the way that she kept in touch with over the years. Gretchen spent a considerable amount of time in Alaska while her son was living there helping to care for his children. She also spent several weeks each year on the Bowerman/Cronk Farm in Canada, a 300-acre farm owned by her Aunt Marion where she helped renovate a Victorian home. Gretchen kept her mind sharp by doing crossword puzzles and enjoyed filling her home with antiques. She loved to take pictures and upgraded her camera each year to the latest and greatest model. One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her family, she especially adored her grandchildren. Gretchen was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend; she will be missed by all who loved her.
Gretchen is survived by her loving sons, Darren (Holly) McVeigh and Brian (Lynette) McVeigh; her grandchildren, Shane, Kayla, Katherine, and Daniel; her siblings, Dick Morse, Carol Stearns, and Ron (Nancy) Morse. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jim Morse and her sister Marilyn Dwyer.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest at Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia.
