Gerald A. Michaels

Gerald A. Michaels, age 78, longtime resident of Brighton, formerly of Detroit, passed away March 25, 2021. He was born on August 17, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Albert and Marianne (Williams) Michaels.  Gerald graduated from Cody High School in Detroit; Class of 1960.

Gerald was the owner of Lola Valley Party Store on 6 Mile Road in Redford for 28 years, it was business he shared with his father, Albert and his brother, Larry.   He enjoyed vegetable gardening and grew pumpkins each fall for his family.  Gerald had a love-hate relationship with technology and was well versed in computers.  He always had a movie camera in hand making home videos and was copying movies from tape to tape.  Over the years he collected several beer memorabilia items.  Gerald adored cats; his current feline companion was Tony.  He fed and cared for many feral cats at his home with the use of heat lamps and shelters. One of his greatest joys was spending time with family, especially his great niece Zaylee.

Gerald is survived by his sister-in-law Sandy Michaels; his nieces, Renée (Danny) Lezotte and Michele Michaels; his great nieces and nephew, Zaylee, Maverick, Megan, and Bailey. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Gail Michaels, his brother Larry Michaels, and his nephew Paul Michaels.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  He will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield. During this difficult time, please make sure to reach out to the family by leaving your thoughts online, with a card or a phone call.
