Gary M. Mccausland

April 12, 1951 — June 13, 2024

Gary Marshall McCausland, age 73, of Northville, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024.  He was born on April 12,1951 in Highland Park, Michigan, the son of Marshall McCausland and Frances (Inglis) McCausland.

Gary grew up in Redford Township, Michigan and graduated from Redford Union High School. It was there he met Constance Lomako in their senior year and the two became dedicated to one another for 56 years until his death. They were married in St. Valentine’s Church in Redford Township in1974.

It was also at Redford Union that Gary was a member of the winning 1969 state of Michigan’s high school championship track team. He ran relays and his well practiced hand offs to best friend and teammate, Rick Kenyon, contributed to wins that no other Redford Union track team has attained.

After putting himself through school, Gary graduated from Michigan State University with honors in 1973 and became a certified public accountant. He was a hard worker all of his life starting as an 11 year old paper boy, and including flipping burgers at Burger King, filing cones at Baskin Robbins, filling tanks at a Clark’s gas station, sanding drywall, landscaping yards, and painting walls in dormitories. After becoming a CPA, Gary began a lengthy and successful career in finance and accounting, first with Price Waterhouse in Detroit and later with the Unisys Corporation in Detroit, London, and New York. It was in Windsor, England that Gary and Constance welcomed their beautiful daughter, Lauren Elizabeth, born in 1982.

In 1987, Gary embarked on a career in the pizza business joining Domino’s Pizza in Ann Arbor as corporate controller and assistant treasurer.  He was later promoted to vice president of development and chief financial officer of international and in 1991, was named executive vice president, director, and president of Domino’s international subsidiary.  In that capacity, Gary managed all the aspects of the company’s international operations, including strategic planning, finance, business development, operations, marketing, training, and other support functions for the chain. He also developed and helped implement a new business model and master franchising plan for the company and was instrumental in its growth from 280 to 2,000 stores and for launching the brand in 50 new countries.

After departing Domino’s in 1999, Gary launched a strategic growth consulting company and later joined the Southfield office of Plante & Moran where he led a team of management consultants who worked on the dissolution of Enron in 2001.

Before retiring, Gary also worked at Papa Romano’s Pizza as chief operating officer.

In his spare time, Gary liked running through Maybury State Park, golfing, skiing, visiting the Leelanau Peninsula, and especially cheering on his beloved Spartans.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Constance; his daughter, Lauren McCausland (Mark Fangmeyer); grandson, Gage McCausland Fangmeyer; sister, Susan Donaldson (John); brother-in-law, Nicholas Lomako; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Thompson) Lomako; sister-in-law, Barbara (Hawkins) McCausland; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Robert McCausland.

A private gathering to honor Gary is planned for immediate family members only. Gary will be interred at the Rural Hill Cemetery in Northville, Michigan.

If you so desire, contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association at alzfdn.org would be greatly appreciated.
