Fredrick L. Winternheimer

Age 86, of Northville, passed away on April 23, 2022. He was born on October 23, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Fredrick G. and Mayme E. (Ruedlinger) Winternheimer. Fred was united in marriage to the love of his life Marilyn S. Beach on April 12, 1969; devoted to each other for 48 years until her death in 2017.

He graduated Eastern High School in Detroit; class of 1954. Fred retired in 2004 from a 50-year career in Sales with various printing paper companies, the last company he worked for was Georgia Pacific. His gregarious personality and his talkative side made him well-liked in the industry.

Fred was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Northville for 15 years. He was also a member of the Northville Eagles Club; this social and charitable club was the perfect fit for him.  He was a gifted woodworker and used his talent to build the library shelves at church. Fred loved music. When his daughters were in high school, he was involved in the band boosters; helping with setup and standing on the sidelines with the other band parents mesmerized by the marching bands music. All the band members knew him as “Derf” or “Grandpa Derf”.

Fred also enjoyed watching sports; he especially liked football and hockey. Always rooting for U of M and the Red Wings; even when he lived in Ohio. Fred recently took a trip to New Orleans to go to the National WWII Museum where he learned to appreciate history even more. In his younger years, he enjoyed travelling to Mackinac Island and to Kentucky visiting the distilleries. Fred was funny and really liked to share stories with anyone who’d listen. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughters, Carrie Winternheimer, Debra Winternheimer, and Heather Winternheimer; his brother George (Kathleen) Winternheimer; his brother-in-law Bill (Jackie) Beach; his nephew Jeff Winternheimer; and his nieces, Pam (Jay) Boethscher, Wendy (Simon) Kissonergis, and Kathlyn (Mark) Sommers. Fred was also survived by many great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Sunday, June 12 at 2pm with visitation beginning at 1:30pm. Pastor James Frusti will officiate the service. Contributions are suggested to any veteran charity of your choice or the Leader Dogs for the Blind .
