Fred D. Koester
Age 74, of Mount Juliet, Tennessee, formerly of Northville, passed away on October 30, 2022 after a 15-year battle against Parkinson’s disease. He was born on March 22, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Fred O. and Charlotte (Beattie) Koester. Fred was raised in Redford and was a 1968 graduate of Thurston High School. He continued his education at Michigan State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. Fred was united in marriage to Carron M. Promack on March 16, 2002; devoted to their love for over 20 years.
Fred was the Director of Human Resources Benefits with AAA Insurance Company. He was a dedicated employee for 30 years until he retired in 2008. Fred enjoyed time with friends and family. Many games of Euchre were played with his family in Harbor Springs over the years. Fred was an amazing family man; he treasured his time with his nieces and nephews coaching them, playing with them, and giving them lots of candy treats. Lovingly called Pa, Fred cherished the time he spent with Georgio and Ivy.
Fred was a member of a wine club and a member of a Bourbon club in Tennessee; he learned to evolve his tastes and develop his palate. He also loved playing cards and, on most Wednesday’s, would be found playing Texas Hold’em with friends. Being as social as he was, he enjoyed hosting numerous parties at “Fred’s on 6”, a basement bar that was fully stocked. Fred, a proud MSU graduate, was a fan of everything Green and White. He watched and rooted for all the MSU teams. He was also a fan of the Detroit Lions and the Detroit Red Wings. Fred enjoyed season tickets to the Red Wings for many years. He was a fun-loving and incredible husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend.
Fred is survived by his wife Carron M. Koester; his bonus children, Dean Conway and Caitlin (Scott) Shirock; his grandchildren, Georgio and Ivy; his brother Stephen Koester; his sister Tina Marsalese; his brother-in-law Mark (Pam) Promack; his sister-in-law Joy (Gary) Minoff; his nieces and nephews, Alexandra (William) Lollis, Brittany (Rick) Howe, Benny Marsalese, Charlotte Matsalese, Dominic Marsalese, Matt (Michelle) Promack, Lauren Promack, and Jeff Minoff; and his great nieces and nephews, Cal, Sully, Malone, Hayes, Sophie, and Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law Salvatore Marsalese, and his sister-in-law Melissa Koester.
