Evelyn L. Armstrong Harper
Age 94, a longtime resident of Northville, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2021. She was born June 20, 1927 in Seattle, Washington; daughter of Hugh F. and Lola (nee Hodges) Armstrong. Evelyn was united in marriage to Frederick C. Harper on July 29, 1950; spending over 53 years devoted to each other until his death on December 31, 2003.
Evelyn graduated from Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Virginia and continued her education at William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. Evelyn taught second grade for 4 years before dedicating her time to her family and becoming a full-time homemaker.
Evelyn, a resident of Northville since 1966, was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1966. She was very active in the community she loved so much. Evelyn was a member and past president of the Northville Garden Club and a member and past president of Northville Woman’s Club. Evelyn enjoyed gardening and admiring beautiful flowers. She was an avid reader and loved playing bridge with several bridge groups. Evelyn also liked going to dinner with friends and neighbors. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Carol Pell, Diane Fletcher, and Marianne Stuparits; her grandchildren, Christopher Pell, Kristin LaVoy, Andrew Fletcher, Kelly Allen, John Stuparits, and Amy Stuparits; and her great grandchildren, Connor, Molly, Henry, Evelyn, Emma, Lila, and Leona.
A graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Chesapeake, Virginia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to the Northville Garden Club, c/o Ms. Sally Hayes, 19592 Northridge Drive, Northville, MI 48167.
