Evelyn S. Crowley
Age 92, a previous longtime resident of Redford, Michigan and a current resident of Livonia, Michigan, passed away peacefully March 3, 2023. She was born on January 1, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of Stanislaw and Josephine (Kokoszka) Kokoszka. She graduated from St. Andrew Catholic High School in Detroit, Class of 1948. She was united in marriage to Daniel Crowley on October 13, 1956. They spent 46 years dedicated to one another until his death on June 5, 2003.
Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. Some of her greatest joys were to gather together with family in celebrations throughout the years. Evelyn adored her family and cherished the time they spent together.
Evelyn loved to cook and bake. Her family’s favorites included traditional Polish food like Pierogi and Golumpki, as well as her famous lemon meringue pies, and every type of cookie. Every year she cultivated beautiful flower gardens around her home and a large vegetable garden in the back yard. An avid reader, she loved a good mystery. She enjoyed day trips to the casino with the Livonia Senior Center and was often a lucky winner. Evelyn also enjoyed playing golf. She was a life long Detroit Tigers fan and rarely missed watching games on TV or listening to them on the radio. Evelyn had a fantastic group of friends from Donald Street in Redford. They spent much of their time gathering at parties and sharing in celebrations. Their friendships continued for many years with a monthly lunch even after many had moved from the neighborhood.
Following high school, Evelyn worked for Ford Motor Company at the Rouge Office Building for several years. When she began having children, she found her true calling and stayed home to care for her family. For over 40 years, she was a member of St. Valentine Catholic Church in Redford. There, Evelyn was a member of the Women’s Club and volunteered her time preparing funeral luncheons, working bingo events, and was a long time "hot dog lady" during the school year.
Evelyn is survived by her loving children, Mary (Chuck) Gotberg, Jean (Paul) Mihalek, Patti (Chris) Harpenau, and Dan (Jane Funfgeld) Crowley; her grandchildren, Julie (Eric) Dufort, Brian (Nicole) Gotberg, Valerie Mihalek, Jack Mihalek, Katie Harpenau, Helen Harpenau, and Lindsey Funfgeld; her great grandchildren, Kingston, Elizabeth, and Leonidas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Ted Kokoszka, and her sisters Wanda Pielechowski and Delphine Fleszar.
