Evelyn A. Allen
Age 101, of Northville formerly of Southfield and Detroit, passed away peacefully at home on March 30, 2021. She was born December 21, 1919 in Liberty, Texas; daughter of Ernest Joe and Anne (Brown) Boudreaux. Evelyn was united in marriage to C. J. Allen for over 20 years until his death on August 11, 1980.
Evelyn earned a nursing certificate from Xavier University in New Orleans. Following school, she worked as a nursing assistant, which is where she met her husband. She also worked as a traveling missionary nurse in the Bahamas and Jamaica. In the 1950’s she switched career paths and became a teacher while living in Mississippi. She focused on teaching her students reading, writing, and music.
Evelyn was a longtime member of Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit (over 50 years). She was very active with the church and many of its programs including the children’s ministry, bible school, giving diapers to young mothers, donating paintings for silent auctions, and Meals on Wheels. She was always willing to do anything she could to help others at church.
Evelyn was a true child of God; she had no judgement for anyone and welcomed everyone with open arms. She lived her life as a Proverbs 31 woman: faithful, strong, virtuous, loving, giving, pure, and full of wisdom. Evelyn was the epitome of Christianity on Earth and was always willing to allow God to use her. She painted beautiful watercolors and oil paintings. She enjoyed sewing and making furniture. She also enjoyed gardening. Evelyn was a wonderful cook and baker. She was a blessing to everyone around her and had a sense of when she was needed by her loved ones. What a child of God to get 101 years; a dedicated child that kept getting new assignments. Completing every single one of them and now God has called one of his true angels’ home for her heavenly assignment.
Evelyn is survived by her loving children, LaBarron Boudreaux and Ujmm Boudreaux; her stepchildren, Gladys Norman, Geraldine Tate (formerly Allen), Eddie Allen (Linell), Otis Allen (Latonya), Norman Allen (Betty), Clarence Allen, and Alvin Allen; her grandchildren includes Norman Allen III, Toya Allen, Tramaine Allen, Ronawn (Ronnie) Allen, Drameckia Jackson, Alvin Jackson, Alastine Jackson, Emily Jackson and 21 more grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren; many great great grandchildren; many extended family members and children that she helped raise and foster throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her stepson Robert Allen, her siblings Joe Boudreaux, Jr., Samuel Boudreaux, Alexander Boudreaux, James Boudreaux, and Flossie Boudreaux, and her grandchild Ronawn (Ronnie) Allen.
