Eugene W. Bongiovanni

January 2, 1934 — April 22, 2021

Eugene W. Bongiovanni, age 87, longtime resident of Northville, formerly of Highland, passed away April 22, 2021. He was born January 2, 1934 in Northville, Michigan; son of Frank and Mary (nee Scida) Bongiovanni.  Eugene graduated from Northville High School; Class of 1952.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1954-1955 where he was stationed in Alaska. Eugene was united in marriage to Mary Bongiovanni on December 3, 1971; they spent 47 years devoted to one another until her death on July 12, 2019.

Eugene worked as an Inspector for the Wayne County Road Commission for over 35 years, retiring in 1985.  He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and attended Sunday Mass regularly.  Eugene was also a member of the American Legion Post 147 and the Northville Moose Lodge 1190.

Eugene was an avid sports fan, especially Notre Dame football.  He enjoyed playing golf with friends and family at different courses in the area.  He also played in a few golf leagues throughout the years.  Eugene liked to watch old Westerns on television and kept his mind sharp by doing crossword puzzles.  He had his pilot’s license and flew small planes.  Over the years he and his wife attended many antique car shows and he took any opportunity he could to ride in an old car during the Northville 4 th of July Parade.  One of his favorite things to do was go out to eat with his wife, their favorite restaurant was Cassels.  Eugene loved spending time with family and cherished all the memories they made.

Eugene is survived by his loving daughters, Tammy (Dave) Abbotts, Toni (Jerry) Nowland, Ann Eckman, and Theresa Eckman; his grandchildren, Lance (Maria) Abbotts, Veronica Eckman, Jonathan Wozniak, and Kahley Wozniak; his great grandchildren, Owen, Sydney, and Kaidyn; his siblings, Joe (Donna) Bongiovanni, Angela McKnight, and Irene Bongiovanni; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his granddaughter Megan Abbotts, and his siblings Catherine Holman, Tony Bongiovanni, Sam Bongiovanni, Frank Bongiovanni, Florence Konopaski, and Lucy Austin.

The Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville.  A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 133 Orchard Drive, Northville. Mr. Bongiovanni will be laid to rest next to his wife at Rural Hill Cemetery in Northville.
