Edmund D. Mcleod

April 22, 1939 — June 13, 2024

Edmund D. McLeod, age 85, of Novi, formerly a lifelong resident of Livonia, passed away on June 13, 2024.  He was born on April 22, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan; son of James and Elizabeth (O’Melia) McLeod.  He graduated from St. Mary High School in Redford; class of 1957.  After graduation, Ed proudly served his country in the United States Army where he was a MP at Fort Chaffee in Arkansas.  Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he continued his education at Wayne State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English and History.

Ed founded an automotive marketing firm in 1975.  As the owner and head of sales for MPI in Southfield, he called on major automotive clients including Ford, GM, Toyota, and Chrysler/Stellantis.  Ed had a reputation for being a true student of the industry, which helped grow his startup into a true competitor in its space.  Although he retired in 2011, he continued to consult for many years with his son Dan.

Ed was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Northville.  An avid golfer, he was a member of Meadowbrook Country Club for over 40 years.  He shared his passion for golf with his sons and appreciated the social aspect of club membership whether it was dining with friends and family or golfing with clients.  Ed was a history enthusiast and was particularly captivated by the Civil War.  He cherished the time he spent with his sons visiting war-related historical landmarks, immersing himself in the stories and sites of the past.  He especially loved Mackinac Island for its rich historical context, with the fudge being an added bonus.  Ed enjoyed genealogy research and dedicated much of his time to uncovering his family's history or “root hunting” as he called it.  He travelled through Europe and to Parkhill, Ontario tracing his ancestors and visiting cemeteries to locate relative’s graves.  His dedication helped his family understand their origins and appreciate their heritage.  Ed grew up on a family farm in Livonia that he and his sister eventually purchased, continuing the legacy of his upbringing while making new memories with his grandchildren.  He inherited a 1953 Ford Jubilee tractor from his father, which became one of his most prized possessions.  Ed had a lifelong love of fast cars, and as a teenager, he enjoyed cruising down Woodward Avenue. His last car was a Dodge Challenger that turned heads and received many compliments. Ed was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend; he will be missed dearly by all who loved him.

Ed is survived by his loving sons, Jim (Christy) McLeod and Dan (Tracey) McLeod; his grandchildren, Michael, Anna, Max, Connor, Lucy, and Cameron; his sister Patricia Kennedy; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Mary Joan Robinson, Frances McNally, and Hilarion McLeod, and his former wife Sandra Lee McLeod.
