Dr. Maureen René Rashwan, age 47, of Commerce Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 6, 2024. She was born on February 18, 1977, and was the beloved daughter of Thomas and Gloria (Frasson) Gerwatowski.
Maureen, a graduate of Farmington High School’s Class of 1995, pursued her academic journey with unwavering determination. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and attended Wayne State University where she followed her passion by earning a PhD in Clinical Psychology. Her dedication to the field was recognized with the publication of her dissertation in 2008, marking a significant milestone in her accomplished academic career.
Maureen dedicated herself tirelessly to helping others as a Clinical Psychologist, working seven days a week in Windsor and Michigan. Her clients deeply admired her for her commitment and empathy. Maureen was known for offering her time, energy, and expertise with unparalleled compassion and care that made a lasting impact on everyone she touched.
As a mother, Maureen was fiercely protective and loving. Maureen treasured every moment with her children, ensuring their days were filled with joy, love, and fun. As a sister, she was quirky and playful; as a daughter, she was beautiful and cherished; and as an aunt she was a favorite, affectionately called “Mo Mo.” Maureen’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and commitment to her family. She valued relationships, was an attentive listener, and always offered her support.
Maureen was celebrated for her vibrant and unique sense of style, often adorned in sparkles, glitter, or a great pair of shoes. Maureen had a love for travel, favoring destinations with warm weather and sandy beaches. Weekend getaways to Florida brought her joy and successful shopping sprees, and she cherished family trips to the Bahamas for relaxation and quality time together. Committed to an active lifestyle Maureen was a passionate runner. She was a gifted and creative writer who expressed her thoughts beautifully through blogs, cards, and limericks.
Maureen leaves a lasting impact on the lives she touched, inspiring others through her kindness, generosity, and her fun-loving spirit.
Maureen is survived by her children, Cameron and Emmersyn; her parents, Tom and Gloria Gerwatowski; her siblings, Nicole (Steve) Herdoiza, Brad (Laura) Gerwatowski, and Justin (Crystal) Gerwatowski; her nieces and nephews, Amanda, Nicholas, Gabby, Ty, Melia, Josie, and Leona; her aunts and uncle, Jeannette (Dan Swisz) Frasson, Annette (Garry) Allen, and Leon (Kathy) Frasson, and Jean Frasson; and her cousins, Joshua Allen, Janina Allen-Vida, and Michael Frasson. She is loved and supported by her children’s father Mohamed Rashwan. Maureen was preceded in death by her grandparents and her uncle John Frasson.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, December 16, 2024 at 11:00 A.M., with visiting beginning at 10:00 A.M. at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 North Haggerty Road, Plymouth, MI 48170.
