Douglas W. Loomis

May 12, 1937 — November 16, 2024

Douglas W. Loomis, age 87, of Oscoda, formerly of Northville, passed away on November 16, 2024. He was born May 12, 1937 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan; son of Charles and Maxine (Chilcote) Loomis. Douglas graduated from Calumet High School in Griffith, Indiana in 1955. He was united in marriage to Daniece (Sekulich) Loomis on June 8, 1957; they spent 21 years devoted to one another until her death on December 13, 1978.

Doug worked as a salesman for the Screw and Bolt corporation in Chicago and later for Burgess-Norton educating himself in the field of powdered metal parts. Doug was a devoted volunteer with the Northville Jaycees, generously giving his time to support community initiatives, where he met many lifelong friends. An avid traveler, he was a proud member of the Sidetrippers group, composed of friends from the Jaycees embarking on countless adventures. One of his favorite traditions was traveling with the group to the Kentucky Derby, where he reveled in the excitement and festivities. He also enjoyed countless University of Michigan football games, tailgating on the golf course on Saturdays, rain or shine.

A talented bridge player, Doug participated in multiple weekly groups, enjoying both social and competitive games. He had a passion for motorcycles, from dirt bike riding with his children to his beloved BMW touring motorcycle. He shared this enthusiasm with his sons, taking unforgettable trips out West and exploring Michigan on shorter day rides. Doug had a deep love of music, particularly blues, rock, and classical, and he rarely missed an opportunity to dance. He found joy in simple pleasures, like watching the birds in his backyard feeders.

After the passing of his wife, Doug stepped into the role of "Mr. Mom," raising his four children with love, strength, and dedication. He loved playing the role of chauffeur of his children to their school and sporting events, particularly travel baseball with Brett. He loved to cook, preparing hearty, home-cooked meals that brought the family together. His world famous biscuits and gravy and scalloped potatoes and ham were two of his most famous. Doug was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His kindness, energy, and devotion to family will be missed by all who loved him.

Doug is survived by his loving children: Mark (Tammy), Scott (Ellen), Brett (Jennifer), Danielle (Doug); grandchildren: Daniece (Chris) , Danielle (Sarah), Jacob, Brittany and Nolan and great grandchildren, Lyla, Gray, and Chloe. He is also survived by his sister Nancy (Andy) and brother Chuck (Patty) and many special relatives and friends. He was dearly loved by his faithful and spiritual companion, Lucille.
