Doris K. Goerke

Age 77, of Northville, passed away on December 2, 2022. She was born on January 11, 1945 in Keokuk, Iowa to Hubert and Edna (Selby) Kraus. Doris was raised in the small town of Arbela, Missouri with her sister Joan. She attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Missouri. Doris received her bachelor’s degree in education in 1967. Later in life she earned her master’s degree in administration from Madonna University.

Doris married Paul Goerke in 1967. They raised their 3 children in Dearborn Heights, Dearborn, and Northville. Doris worked as a program coordinator at Ford Visteon. She later moved to Westland and served as a substitute teacher in the Wayne Westland School District.

Doris was always happy. Some of her best-known quotes were, “stress can kill, learn to chill” and “just keep celebrating!” She loved any chance she got to celebrate family and always turned birthdays into birth-months. Doris made friends easily. She loved to sing and play piano, and most of all she loved a good deal. Bargains were her daily adventure; going garage sale-ing and clipping coupons made her day.  The most important aspect of her life was her family. She was a devoted mother and dedicated grandmother. Known lovingly by her grandchildren as GG, she was always in the neighborhood to visit with them and bring them treats. Singing traditional nursery rhymes to her grandchildren while snuggling and holding them tight created fond memories for both her and her family. Doris was an unconditional, loving, and loyal mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

She is survived by her children, Dana Eyler, Karl (Dayna) Goerke, and Erik (Kate) Goerke; her grandchildren, Joseph, Lucas, Jackson, Kaia, and Emmett. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Joan Pruett.

Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm with a service beginning at 6:00 pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. Rev. Dr. James N. McGuire with Christ Presbyterian Church will officiate the service.
