Donald R. Chamberlain

Donald R. Chamberlain,

Age 80, longtime resident of Northville, passed away September 1, 2021.  He was born March 13, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Winton and Helen (nee Flinn) Chamberlain.  He graduated from Cody High School in Detroit; Class of 1959.  He continued his education at Eastern Michigan University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in History and Education, as well as a master’s degree.  He was united in marriage to Maureen A. Wasilewski on September 21, 1961; they spent 59 years devoted to one another.

Donald began his teaching career in Madison Heights.  In 1966, he took a job at Plymouth Salem High School where he taught 9 th grade and AP Social Studies until retiring in 1999.

Donald loved all college sports, especially U of M where he had season tickets to football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball.  When U of M wasn’t playing at home Donald and his wife would often travel to where they were playing.  As part of Donald’s bucket list, they visited 92 different college stadiums to watch football.  While they were there, they would attend concerts, visit museums, see botanical gardens, and any other cultural attractions the area offered.  Donald enjoyed travelling and taking road trips, he and his wife visited all 48 contiguous states, some of them multiple times.  He enjoyed gardening and keeping a well-manicured lawn.  He also enjoyed hiking and biking.  Donald was an avid reader, especially books on history, biographies, and sports.  He had a large political button collection as well as a diecast model car collection.

Donald is survived by his beloved wife Maureen Chamberlain; his daughters, Elizabeth Chamberlain and Laura (Ross) Worley; his granddaughters, Emma, Kate, and Annie; and his brother, Robert (Bonnie) Chamberlain.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private family services will be held.  In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the American Lung Association , 1475 E. 12 Mile Road, Madison Heights, MI 48071, for the advancement of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
