Domenick A. Lombardi, a proud Vietnam Veteran, passed away April 29, 2023 at the age of 74. He was born on February 4, 1949 in Bronx, New York; son of Luigi G. and Nancy (Caffarelli) Lombardi. Born and raised in the Bronx he attended Dewitt Clinton High School. In 1987 he moved to Michigan to follow his heart. Domenick was united in marriage to Susan K. Gatteri on April 22, 2008, they were lovingly devoted to each other for over 38 years.
Domenick proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during Vietnam. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion 2nd Artillery 1st Armored Division. Domenick was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Marksman award. Domenick finished his tour in Vietnam with the Mobile Riverine Force 9th Infantry. His service to his country was a very important part of his life.
Domenick was an incredible husband, loving father, and cherished grandpa. He was a happy cat dad who adored the unconditional love from his cat, Bleu. He enjoyed tinkering around his home, caring for and maintaining his yard, and chatting with his neighbors. Domenick often traveled to New York to visit his family; his favorite place to stay was West Point. He was an Asset Retrieval Specialist with Midwest Auto Auction in addition to being a gun safety advocate and instructor. Domenick will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Susan; his children, Richard (Debbie) Lombardi, Nancy Lombardi, and Stefanie (Paul Hegedus) Ward; his grandchildren, Nicholas Lombardi and Jessica Lombardi; his sister Anna (the late David) Nathan; his brothers-in-law, Mike (the late Peggy) Gatteri and Dennis Gatteri; and his nieces and nephews, Lori (Pete), Michael (Maggie), Nicole, Jerry (Shannon), and Michael (Erin). Domenick was preceded in death by his parents and his father and mother-in-law.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 1pm until 3pm with a Celebration of Life beginning at 3pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. Chaplain Roland Schaedig will officiate the service. He will be laid to rest at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York.
