Dennis C. Sherry

April 11, 1966 — December 5, 2019

Dennis C. Sherry, age 53, a longtime resident of Salem Township, passed away on December 5, 2019 after an almost six-year battle with cancer. He was born on April 11, 1966 in Brookville, Pennsylvania; son of Wayne and Mary Lou (nee Steinmetz) Sherry. Dennis graduated near the top of his class from Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School in Foxburg, Pennsylvania; class of 1984.  He was voted class clown, was a member of the track team, and performed in the musical production of South Pacific.  Dennis proudly served his country as a Cryptologic Technician Maintenance Petty Officer in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Petty Officer Second Class.  During his six years in the Navy he worked on Classic Wizard, an elite project within Naval Intelligence.  He was stationed in many places including Adak Alaska; Imperial Beach California; Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean; and Washington D.C.  Dennis was united in marriage on October 6, 1990 at Greenfield Village to Marie Colling, a fellow sailor who he met in California. They lived in London England for a year before returning to the States to settle near Marie’s hometown of Northville.

Dennis worked as an Electronic Technician for ICR, Inc. in Warren for many years.  He loved spending time outdoors with his family and friends, including visiting his family’s camp in the Allegheny National Forest near Ridgway, PA and camping in state and national parks.  While originally tent campers, he and his wife eventually bought a camper small enough to fit into rustic camp sites. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed deer hunting whether he got a deer or not. He adored the pets he had over the years, especially his beagles.  His current furry companions are his beagle Max, German shepherd Shadow, and cat Gary.  Dennis was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, and a dear friend to many; he will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife Marie Sherry; his son Matthew Sherry; his siblings, Daniel (Sherrie) Sherry, Karen (Kenny) Geiger, Kathy Lawrence, and Linda Sherry; his in-laws, John and Marcie Colling; his brother-in-law Scott Camerlo; his aunts, uncles and cousins; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Laura Camerlo and his brother-in-law Randy Landon.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 12, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 5:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville.  Father Tom Belczak from St. Kenneth Catholic Church in Plymouth will officiate the service.  Dennis will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
