David K. McFarland, 81, of Northville, formerly of Farmington Hills, passed away Friday, August 21, 2020. He was born on October 2, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan to Junior and Barbara (House) McFarland. He is survived by his loving wife Karen (Kamin) McFarland of 42 years. He is also survived by his brothers Gerald McFarland and Richard (Beverly Etheridge) McFarland; his sister Nancy (Thomas) Abraham; and his brothers-in law, Keith (Sharon) Kamin, Charles Kamin, and Randal (Glenda) Kamin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Edmund McFarland, and his sisters-in-law Francis McFarland, Clara McFarland and Ivy-Lynne Kamin.
Dave proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1959, dedicating four years to protect and serve. He was a life-long Tool and Die Maker following his discharge from the Air Force. He retired in 2015 from Quasar Industries. Dave thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of making something from nothing.
Dave and Karen loved traveling throughout the United States, nearly visiting all 50 states, and were active bowlers, playing on several leagues for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid gardener. He dabbled in photography taking scenic pictures, appreciating the beauty of nature. He had an extremely outgoing personality and never met a stranger.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 14175 Farmington Road, Livonia. Rev. Dean Davenport will officiate the service. David will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia. Memorial contributions are appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , Wounded Warrior Project (P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675), or to a charity of the giver’s choice.
