David Wayne Delauder

June 8, 1945 — March 30, 2023

David Wayne DeLauder, age 77, of Onaway, Michigan, formerly of Livonia, passed away March 30, 2023. He was born in Highland Park, Michigan on June 8, 1945; son of Joseph and Mildred (Ronk) DeLauder. Dave graduated from Redford Union High School in Redford, Michigan; class of 1963. He was united in marriage to Maxine E. Stickney on June 12, 1965; they spent 57 years lovingly devoted to one another.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Maxine DeLauder; his son, Mark (Sara) DeLauder; his grandchildren, Joseph and Allison; his sisters, JoAnne (David) Ellis and Judy (Karl) Brocklehurst; brother-in-law, Kenneth Stickney; sister-in-law, Lois (the late Steve) Edwards; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister-in-law, Ruth Barker.

Dave began his career with Redford Township where he worked as an auxiliary police officer. He was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam era where he proudly served his country training new recruits to use tanks and big guns. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Dave took a job as a police officer with the City of Northville. Well respected in the community, his career spanned 23 years until retiring in 1993 as a Staff Sergeant. After retiring, Dave and Maxine moved North where he volunteered with the Ocqueoc-Bearinger Fire Department for 6 years.

Dave absolutely cherished living up north with his devoted wife always by his side. Working on their property with his big equipment was a favorite pastime. Through the years, he loved spending time outdoors with his son riding ATVs, snowmobiling, and deer hunting. He enjoyed tinkering on anything with an engine, including cars, trucks, and tractors. Dave was proud of his restoration project, a ’62 Ford Galaxie, which with the help of his grandchildren, won him several trophies. He was incredibly kind and generous with his time, often helping those around him with anything they needed. Dave was extremely proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments. He loved spending time with them, playing board games and cards. He shared his love of tinkering and snowplowing with his grandson. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
