David S. Compo, age 60, of Northville, passed away suddenly on January 2, 2021. He was born on July 20, 1960 in Detroit, Michigan; son of James and Janet (nee Mitchell) Compo. He graduated in 1978 from Farmington High School and continued his education at Lawrence Technological University. David was united in marriage to Michele M. Pilat on June 6, 1998; they spent 22 loving years devoted to one another.
David was President of Compo Builders, Inc., a custom home building and remodeling company. He co-founded the company with his brother Christopher in 2013. David was precise and intelligent; he loved his career, and it was evident in the work he produced. He was very well respected in the building industry. David was the immediate Past President of the Home Builders Association, a position he worked toward for over 10 years and was immensely proud of the accomplishment. David was a successful entrepreneur and has been a real estate broker for over 20 years.
David was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the National Association of Home Builders and Builder 20 Club. He was also a member of the Huron River Hunting and Fishing Club. David had an adventurous spirit and liked to be outdoors hiking, climbing, extreme mountain biking, snowmobiling, and scuba diving. He was an Adult Leader with Troop 755 and went on multiple high adventure trips with his son. One of David’s favorite things to do was fly, he had his pilot’s license for many years and flew as often as he could. David was an amateur photographer, capturing many happy family moments throughout the years including the weddings of friends and family.
David was a philanthropist and incredibly generous with his time and talents. In 2017, he and his brother Christopher built a home for a disabled veteran with a young family in Redford that was funded solely through donations. For the past 26 years he used his speaking skills to emcee a wild game fundraising dinner. He also donated his time and plane for multiple trips to Northern Michigan for charitable fundraisers. Additionally, he flew annually with fellow pilots through Operation “Good Cheer” to deliver Christmas presents to foster children across the state. David had a magnetic personality; he was energetic and fun loving. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, he will be missed by all that knew him.
David is survived by his loving mother, Janet Compo; and his siblings, Carole Smith, Christopher (Lisa) Compo, Paul (Annette) Compo, and Mark Compo. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father. He tragically died with his wife and son.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 133 Orchard Drive, Northville. Due to the current restrictions, there is limited seating inside the church and gymnasium. Please use the link below to reserve your space .
