Daniel R. Watkins, age 36, a lifelong resident of Northville, passed away on February 18, 2022. He was born on May 15, 1985 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Thomas D. Watkins Jr. and Karen Grezlik. He was a 2003 graduate of Northville High School. After graduating Dan received his diploma from Specs Howard School of Media Arts and began a career in broadcasting at 97.1 the Ticket.
“Dare Dan” as he was known on the morning show with Jay Towers is where Dan shined. His gregarious personality and adventurous spirit proved he was a natural entertainer. While working on the morning show he worked on pre and postproduction and held many valuable roles. One of the most memorable times at work was his conversation with Ernie Harwell that left him in tears. His career in broadcast journalism ended in 2012. He has been working at Ford Automotive Company for the past 10 years.
Daniel’s sarcastic witty sense of humor made him easy to love. Quoting Seinfeld or reciting movies was one of Dan’s funniest qualities. Dan loved the comic Calvin and Hobbes. He usually had a hilarious meme to accompany his iconic quotes. Dan enjoyed golfing with friends. He had an unconditional deep bond with a close group of friends that he had since high school. Dan collected shoes, lots of shoes and hats. He also enjoyed the World Series of Poker – watching, playing, and betting.
Dan was the most loving, kind, and thoughtful son, brother, father, friend, and neighbor. He maintained long-lasting relationships because of his kindness. Being a father brought Dan so much joy and happiness. He was proud of his son; Owen was the best part of his life. He will be remembered as an incredible storyteller; his sense of humor was his ultimate gift.
Daniel is survived by his son Owen Watkins; his parents Tom “Danny” Watkins and Karen (David) Farhat; his sister Katherine “Kat” (Joshua Paul) Watkins; his nephews Sonny Paul and Dylan Paul; and his stepsisters Andrea (Billy West) Farhat and Jill Farhat. He is also survived by his devoted and dedicated girlfriend Kara Elder and loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Dan was preceded in death by his grandparents.
