Clara G. Laboda

Clara G. Laboda, age 99, of Northville, passed away on December 26, 2018.  She was born March 25, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of Frank and Tillie (nee Zacna) Dwornik.  She was united in marriage to Adolph Laboda on April 30, 1939; devoted to each other until his death in 1992.

Clara worked as a Processing Clerk for National Bank of Detroit; she was great with numbers and a whiz at finances.  She read the dictionary nightly to grow her vocabulary, so she could pass tests at work to further her career.  She was a member of Our Lady of Victory for 4 years since she has lived in Northville and was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Angels in Detroit for many years. She was a prayer warrior and was a person of deep faith.

Clara was a member of Daughters of Isabella where she served as Secretary and   Treasurer. She was also a member of the Sgt. Stanley F. Romanowski VFW Post #6896 in Detroit.  Clara loved to travel; she took many bus trips with her church to visit shrines.  She also traveled with her family to Branson, MO, Dollywood, Niagara Falls, and to Ohio to visit her daughter.  Clara was very talented at crocheting and created beautiful afghans and doilies.  Always fashionable and stylish, Clara enjoyed being active and walking several miles a day. Clara was a wonderful cook and baker.  Above all else Clara loved being a mom, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Delphine (James) Delaney, Patricia (Dennis) Wilkinson, and James (Theresa) Laboda; her brother Chester Popek; her grandchildren, Elizabeth (Frank) Audia, Francine (Tony) Cercone, Annette (Dean) Askounis, Denise (Ron) Wollett, Joselle Doubet, James (Sylvia) Laboda, and Richard Laboda; and her great grandchildren, Samantha, Alexandra, Noah, Tonino, Julia, Joseph, Alekos, Maria, Ronnie, Reid, Claire, Jonah, Aidan, Logan, and Sophia. Clara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her grandson Michael Laboda, 3 sisters, and 3 brothers.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 30, 2018 from 2pm until 6pm with a Rosary at 4pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, December 31, 2018 at 10:30am, instate at 10am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 133 Orchard, Northville. She will be laid to rest at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights.
