Christopher M. Rice

Christopher M. Rice, age 64, of Whitmore Lake, passed away May 3, 2019.  He was born October 31, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Elmer and Marilyn (nee Fensternmacher) Rice, Jr. Chris graduated from Stevenson High School in Livonia; Class of 1973.  He was united in marriage to Rhonda Atchison on September 19, 2009; they spent 9 loving years together as husband and wife.

Chris was the owner of Owens Commercial Landscaping in Westland for over 40 years, a business he purchased when he was just 19 years old.  He was an incredibly hard worker and always had a project, either at home or at his business.  He attended Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Brighton and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

An avid boater, he loved being on the water.  Chris enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially 4-wheeling which was always done fast.  He and his wife travelled all over the world together, their adventures took them to exotic places like Vietnam, Cambodia, multiple European Viking cruises, as well as extensively throughout the United States.  Chris adored his feline companion, a Siamese cat named Mow.  The most important thing to Chris was his family, he truly loved them and the time they spent together.

Chris is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda Atchison Rice; his sons, Steven (Jennifer) Rice and Mark Rice; his stepson, Roger Karl (Mary) Schlack; his siblings Tim Rice and Gayle Henderson; his grandchildren, Max, Derek, and Russell, and his nieces Courtney, Heather, and Jaclyn.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

The visitation will be held Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  A funeral service will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville.  He will be laid to rest at Holy Spirit Cemetery in Brighton.
