Chris J. Poulos, age 78, lifelong resident of Northville, passed away September 28, 2019. He was born June 6, 1941 in Livonia, Michigan; son of John and Georgia (nee Levendiotis) Asimacopoulos. Chris was united in marriage to Penny Kanellos on July 31, 1966; they were lovingly devoted to one another for 53 years.
Chris worked as a hi-lo driver for 30 years with General Motors Hydramatic at Willow Run in Ypsilanti; retiring in 1994. He was a founding member of Nativity of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Plymouth. He was very active in the church serving as a usher, volunteering for grounds maintenance, and delighting children and adults by playing Santa Claus at Christmas time.
Chris was an avid golfer; he played whenever he could at different courses in the area, often with his grandsons. He enjoyed deer hunting and bowled in a league for many years. Chris was a wonderful storyteller and conversationalist. A true people person, he always greeted those he knew with a smile, hug, and a kiss. Chris was a very supportive father; when his children were young, he coached his son’s baseball team and his daughter’s softball teams. He also took his daughters to Greek dancing instruction in Detroit. As a grandfather, Chris, who was lovingly called Papou, was just as supportive. He loved attending all his grandson’s sporting events including football, wrestling, and basketball.
Chris is survived by his beloved wife, Penny Poulos; his children, Georgia (Elias) Koumariotis, Joanne (John) Metrusias, and Dino (Kristen) Poulos; his grandson’s Yianni, Christopher, George, Nicholas, Andrew, and Johnny. He was also loved by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
