Cheryl K. Swies, age 59, of Wixom, formerly a longtime resident of Novi, passed away December 31, 2018. She was born on September 24, 1959 in Dearborn; daughter of Earl and Eva (nee Tiri) Bessonen. Cheryl graduated from Thurston High School in Redford; Class of 1977. She earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from U of M Dearborn and continued her education with a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation from the Wharton School of Business.
Cheryl worked as a Human Resource Benefits Representative for AAA Michigan and Flint Ink. Most recently she worked as a sales associate for Robertson Brothers Homes in Wixom. She was also working as an event coordinator with Diversified Management Services and as a yoga and fitness instructor for seniors at Northville Parks and Rec.
Cheryl was very active, she liked to exercise and spend time outdoors. She enjoyed doing crafts and floral arranging and had a flair for interior design. Cheryl also enjoyed shopping. She was a wonderful baker and made the most delicious cookies. As a caretaker for her mom, she cherished the time they spent together. One of her favorite things to do was to take family vacations, especially to the U.P.
Cheryl is survived by her loving son, Eric Swies; her mother, Eva Bessonen; her brothers, Robert (Sherri) Bessonen, David (Cynthia) Bessonen, and John (Kari) Bessonen; her husband of 31 years Joseph Swies; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Earl.
Memorial Visitation will be held Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. A private family service will be held. Cheryl will be laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery in Calumet, MI.
