Charlotte A. Meyer

April 28, 1934 — November 6, 2024

Charlotte A. Meyer, age 90, longtime resident of Plymouth, passed away on November 6, 2024. She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on April 28, 1934 daughter of Edward and Hazel (Hackney) Sutherlin.  Charlotte was united in marriage to Howard F. Meyer, Jr. in January 1957; they spent 67 years lovingly devoted to one another.

Charlotte graduated from high school in Oklahoma City, OK, and began her studies at Oklahoma University. She paused her education to raise her family, later resuming her academic journey at the University of Michigan, where she completed her bachelor’s degree and earned a master’s in social work. Her dedication to learning and helping others was evident in her commitment to both her family and her career.

Charlotte dedicated many years to helping others as a therapist at a private mental health clinic in Ann Arbor before opening her own practice at home. Her warm and comforting demeanor, coupled with her skillful guidance, earned her the trust and loyalty of countless patients. She supported many through their most challenging times, leaving a lasting impact on those she cared for before retiring in the late 1980’s.

Charlotte was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Northville. Active with the church, she served as an elder and past president of Women’s Association. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Charlotte was an entrepreneur at heart, running a successful business alongside her husband that specialized in Cathedralite Domes, while also managing multiple rental properties in the area. A gifted photographer, she captured striking images of people, landscapes, and wildlife; her work was frequently featured in Tipping Pointe Theatre advertisements. Known for her keen intelligence, Charlotte kept her mind sharp with reading and found joy in adventure, traveling to destinations around the world. When her children were young, they journeyed across the U.S. and even took a family trip to Europe on a modest budget of five dollars a day. In retirement, she and her husband, Howard, traversed the U.S. in their motor home, spending extended periods in Alaska, where they volunteered at the Visitors Center, and in Maine, contributing their time at the National Fish Hatchery. Each trip was carefully documented in beautiful photo books filled with pictures and keepsakes. Above all, Charlotte cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, spending countless hours with them and ensuring they felt her boundless love. She also adored her Yorkie, Becca, her devoted companion. Charlotte leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, and she will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

Charlotte is survived by her loving husband, Howard F. Meyer, Jr.; her sons, Howard “Fred” (Kathy) Meyer and Timothy Meyer; her grandchildren, Josh (Kat) Meyer, Katie (Cameron) Opuda, and Jessica (David) Porter; her great grandchildren, Maddie, Owen, James, Vincent, Eric, and Sloane; her brother-in-law, Larry (Carlene) Meyer; and her sister-in-law, Sheridan Meyer.  She was preceded in death by her parents.
