CHARLES SAMUEL PELTZ, JR.

September 24, 1941 – July 24, 2024

Charles Samuel Peltz, Jr., loving husband to Norma for 60 years and devoted father to Charles Steven and Matthew James, passed away peacefully to his heavenly home on July 24, 2024, at the Angela Hospice Care Center (hospital) in Livonia. Norma and Steve were with him as he transitioned. He was ready to meet Matthew…his crossing over Angel. Charles was proceeded in death by his parents, Charles Samuel Peltz, Sr. and Anna Eugenia Peltz; his sister, Lindsay Peltz Martin; and his son, Matthew James Peltz.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife Norma Peltz; his devoted son Charles Steven Peltz (Edwin Critchlow); his caring daughter-in-law, Barbara Lynn Peltz; and his two loving grandchildren, Jack Matthew Peltz and Katherine Lindsay Peltz, each of whom he adored. He was especially grateful for the love and support of his brother-in-law, Owen Eric Harvey, his sister-in-law, Cathy Oeschle Harvey, and his nephew, Michael Ethan Harvey.

Charles was born at Harper hospital in Detroit on September 24, 1941. He grew up on Grosse Ile, living by the water and making lifelong friends. Being by or on the water is where he found peace in this life. His family church, St. James Episcopal, has a Memorial Garden, located on the Detroit River. There will be an interment there where he will be with his family and friends.

Charles graduated from Grosse Ile High School in 1959 in a class of 75. He excelled in Track & Field winning several State championships. Entering the University of Michigan in 1959, he lettered in Track and became part of the distinguished M Club. His UM Track Team coached by Don Canham won the Big Ten Championship. As a student, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/Marketing (BBA). IN 1964, he received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration/Economics (MBA).

Charles joined Chi Psi Fraternity (Alpha Epsilon) at the U of M where he made bonded, lifelong friends…brothers in the true sense. Gifted with a fine baritone voice, Charles sang solos at fraternity gatherings, including The Michigan “Fireside Song.”

Charles met the love of his life, Norma Harvey, in Ann Arbor in 1962. The morning after their first date, they went to church at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church on Division Street. They were married after graduation on June 27, 1964. The wedding was held at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.

Charles and Norma moved to Dearborn Heights as newlyweds. He began work at Cadillac Motor Company and she was a teacher in Garden City. They bought their first home in 1966 in Livonia and had the great joy of Steven’s and Matthew’s arrivals.

Charles was hired by Federal Mogul Corporation in 1965 and worked as an International Marketing Manager. In 1984, he joined Dura Corporation as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. In 1993, he purchased State Fabricators, Inc. as co-owner. He later assumed full ownership and led the company as CEO. His son, Matthew, joined the company as President. They enjoyed working together for many years.

Charles was a Renaissance Man, with a sharp and inquisitive mind. As an avid reader, he was well-informed on many subjects. A candidate for “Jeopardy” we all thought. He enjoyed his years of Men’s Bible Studies at the First Presbyterian Church of Northville.

Charles loved music of every genre. He remembered countless lyrics until the very end. He sang in the First Presbyterian Church of Northville choir for 25 years and participated in its annual Messiah performances. He also enjoyed being part of the Northville Concert Chorale.

Charles loved people and laughed easily. He had a deep commitment to serving others. He coached many Little League teams. He was elected to the Northville Board of Education and served on the Northville Recreation Board. He was a member of the Northville Rotary Club and served as President.

Charles served on a business advisory board for Governor Blanchard. He was a trustee of his Chi Psi Fraternity Board. He was a valued trustee of Presbyterian Villages of Michigan as well as the Drusilla Farwell Foundation.

If Heaven is what we hope it will be, Charles will be at the Jersey Shore with his family, water skiing on the Detroit River with his high school friends, sailing on Walloon Lake with his boys, walking the beach in Florida with his best friends, driving up M119 along the shores of Lake Michigan and watching a Pacific sunset while holding Norma’s hand.

Above all, Charles will be remembered for his enduring love of family and loyalty to friends. His was a life well-lived. A man of integrity and spirit. One of the good men in a world where there are often so few. He will join his many friends of fifty years who proceeded him at a quiet interment at Rural Hill Cemetery in downtown Northville.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville, MI 48167.
