Cecilia B. Bodnar

Cecilia B. Bodnar, age 97, of Howell, formerly of Salem Township, passed away April 3, 2023.  She was born on March 30, 1926 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada; daughter of Edward and Bridget (Redmond) McGee.

Cecilia was a wonderful homemaker and a devoted mother. She was a successful upholsterer and stained-glass artist. Hardworking, she ran her own upholstery business for over 20 years and created beautiful masterpieces using stained-glass for over 40 years.

Cecilia was part of the greatest generation, having proudly served in the first contingent of the Canadian Women’s Army Corps where she worked in the factory making ammunition during World War II. She was a very talented and creative woman. Cecilia lovingly built her granddaughters’ dollhouses with all the furniture made and upholstered by her hand. They cherished playing with the dollhouses and will always remember the amazing playroom that was created with love by Grandma. She made display room boxes to showcase her miniature furniture and made magnificent porcelain dolls with elegant dresses. Cecilia also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, painting dishes, and handmaking clothing for grandchildren, including costumes for special occasions.  There was literally not a craft that Cecilia couldn’t do.

Cecilia attended the Howell Senior Center each week and volunteered to help with events, as well as make door prizes.  Her assistance was so appreciated that the Howell Senior Center honored her as Volunteer of the Year. Cecilia loved to travel and had many adventures with her family. Her most memorable time was going for a hot air balloon ride when the pilot misjudged the landing and crashed, luckily everyone left unharmed. Cecilia was a generous, loving, and warm mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend.

She is survived by her children, Ron Bodnar and Mary (Lawrence) Hoisington; her grandchildren, Chelsea (Justin) Connolly and Bridget (Chris Farah) Bodnar; her great grandchildren, Roman, Cecilia, and Miriam; and her brother Shaun McGee. Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 30 years Ferdinand H. Bodnar; her son Frederick Bodnar; her granddaughter Michelle Hoisington; and her siblings, William McGee, Catherine Deslippe, Eileen McGee, Constance McGee, Janet McGee, Doreen Dickens, Maureen Neal, Shelia Tait, and Irene McGee.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 14, 2023 from 10am until Noon with the funeral service beginning at Noon at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. Father Tom Belczak will officiate the service. She will be laid to rest at Salem Walker Cemetery in Salem Township, Michigan.
