Carol Ann Holland
July 20, 1933 – November 29, 2022
Carol Holland, schoolteacher and longtime resident of Northville, Michigan, passed away on November 29, 2022, at the age of 89. Consummately kind and caring, Carol was truly loved and will be missed by all who knew her. She retained her quick wit and sense of humor until her final days.
Carol was born on July 20, 1933, to Fred and Christie Wolters in Rochester, New York. She graduated from Brighton High School in Rochester and began her post-secondary studies at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, majoring in home economics. There she met and married her husband, Lee, and moved to Fort Rucker in Enterprise, Alabama, where their daughter Karen was born. The family then moved to the Detroit area, eventually settling in Redford Township and Livonia, Michigan.
While raising her children, Carol completed coursework on a part-time basis to earn her bachelor’s degree in education at Eastern Michigan University, where she later earned a Master of Education degree. She completed her 30-year career as a first-grade teacher in Livonia Public Schools, serving at Hoover, Buchanan, and Tyler Elementary schools. There, she touched the lives of hundreds of children and made many lifelong friends with her fellow educators.
In 1972, the family moved to Northville, Michigan, where Carol resided for the remainder of her life. After retiring in 1996, she stayed socially active with friends and former professional colleagues, frequently exploring the U.S. and abroad with travel companions, volunteering at the Northville Public Library, and in her latter years, performing alongside other seniors in community musical productions as part of Beyond Belief Senior Theatre. Carol was known for her quick wit and magnetic personality that not only made her a great performer, but also a role model to many.
Carol had a contagious joy and curiosity for life that she maintained through her final days. Her light will continue to spread through all who knew her.
Carol was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor Curry, her former husband, Lee Holland, and her daughter, Karen Holland. She is survived by two daughters; Christine (Gary) Kitts of Venice, Florida, and Amy (Matt) Brauer of Grosse Pointe, Michigan; two sons, David (Sandra) Holland of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Mark (Sandi) Holland of Plymouth, Michigan; her grandchildren, Stephanie Kitts, Hillary (Justin) Dutton, Kailey Holland, Chloe Holland, Sydney Holland, Bianca (Tim) Scott, Brandon Mathews, Hannah Brauer, and Jacob Brauer; and four great-grandchildren, Savannah Dutton, Jace Dutton, Poppy Dutton and Ryan Scott.
