Carlo J. Mannino, age 88, of Northville, passed away March 9, 2021. He was born on February 25, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Vito and Antonina (nee Scrafano) Mannino. Carlo, also known as Carl or CJ, was united in marriage to Kathryn M. Hile Pilar on July 18, 1992; devoted to each other and their blended family for over 28 years.
Raised in Detroit he graduated from Annunciation School. He continued his education at Central Michigan where he completed his undergraduate degree and University of Detroit where he completed his master’s in business administration. Carl moved to Northville in 1992 after living in Plymouth and Southfield. Since 2005 CJ and Kathy split their time between Northville and Boca Raton, Florida.
He worked as the Treasury Operations Manager with Ford Motor Company (Ford Credit) for 37 years; he retired on January 1, 2000. Carl was also a dedicated professor of marketing and finance at Sienna Heights University at their satellite locations in metro Detroit. Teaching was his passion, and it was evident in the respect he earned from his students. Another interest Carl had was following the stock market on CNBC.
Carl was a fun-loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His heart was full, and he shared his warm personality with family, friends, and even strangers; talking to anyone who would listen. His commitment to his family was unconditional. Carl coached his sons’ hockey team and traveled nonstop during the season. Carl enjoyed reading a book on the patio and falling asleep in his chosen chair. Napping and relaxing were among his favorite things to do. Carl liked the excitement of going to the casino, but also appreciated the sophistication of the theater. He enjoyed taking cruises during his time in Florida; he and Kathy went on as many as they could. CJ will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Kathy; his children, Michael (Heather) Mannino, Paul Mannino, Carla (Mark Kopelman) Mannino, and Shawn (Kara) Pilar; his sister Nell Benedict; and his grandchildren, Braeden Mannino, Aspen Mannino, LT. Joseph Mannino, Regina Mannino, Sophia Mannino, Anthony Mannino, Wyatt Kopelman, and Hudson Pilar. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Camile Malfitano, Rose Bommarito, and Louise Boileau.
